Ahead of the AgriTech Challenge Pro Final Pitch, the Kosmos Innovation Center (KIC) has completed field validation visits, a critical stage in the programme’s process of assessing businesses for potential funding and progression into incubation.
The validation exercise provided the KIC team with an opportunity to engage directly with participating businesses, observe their operations and verify information presented about their business activities, products, services and progress. By assessing these businesses in their operational environments, KIC seeks to build a clearer understanding of their current capacities, business models and readiness for the next stage of growth.
Strengthening the Business Assessment Process
For entrepreneurs seeking to scale their businesses, demonstrating the viability of their ideas requires more than a compelling pitch. It also involves showing evidence of implementation, understanding operational challenges and demonstrating the potential to build sustainable enterprises.
The field validation process introduces an additional layer of rigour to the AgriTech Challenge Pro’s business assessment. Through direct engagement and on-the-ground observations, the team can better understand the realities of each business, verify key claims and gather relevant insights to support the selection process.
The exercise also creates opportunities for meaningful conversations with entrepreneurs about their progress, challenges and ambitions, while providing insight into the ecosystems and communities within which they operate.
Informing Funding and Incubation Decisions
The validation exercise forms part of the broader AgriTech Challenge Pro journey towards the Final Pitch, where businesses will be assessed for selection into the incubation stage and potential funding support.
By incorporating field-based assessment into the programme, KIC reinforces its commitment to a more informed and rigorous selection process. The insights gathered during validation will contribute to understanding which businesses are positioned to benefit from further support as they work towards strengthening their operations, improving their solutions and pursuing growth opportunities.
For participating entrepreneurs, the process is also an opportunity to demonstrate the work taking place beyond the pitch room and the practical steps being taken to turn business ideas into viable enterprises.
Supporting the Next Generation of Agribusinesses
Through the AgriTech Challenge Pro, KIC continues to support entrepreneurs developing innovative solutions to challenges across agriculture and related value chains. The programme is designed to help promising businesses strengthen their foundations and build the capacity required to pursue sustainable growth. The AgriTech Challenge Pro forms part of the Initiative for Youth in Agricultural Transformation ( IYAT) Program, a partnership between Kosmos Innovation Center and the Mastercard Foundation.
The validation visits underscored the importance of combining entrepreneurial ambition with evidence, practical assessment and an understanding of the realities businesses face on the ground.
As the programme progresses towards the Final Pitch, the validation stage will help inform decisions on the businesses to advance into incubation, where selected enterprises can receive further support to develop and scale their solutions.
