A journey that began with early-stage support at the Kosmos Innovation Center (KIC) has evolved into a significant milestone for Ghana’s agricultural technology sector, as Complete Farmer advances its growth through a partnership with the International Finance Corporation (IFC).
When Complete Farmer participated in the Kosmos Innovation Center’s AgriTech Challenge in 2017, it was an emerging business with an ambition to use technology to address challenges across the agricultural value chain.
The team’s participation marked an important stage in its entrepreneurial journey. Through the KIC programme, the business gained exposure, coaching and opportunities to develop its ideas within an environment designed to support young entrepreneurs building commercially viable agricultural solutions.
Today, Complete Farmer’s journey illustrates how early-stage entrepreneurship support can help create a foundation upon which ambitious businesses continue to build.
From early-stage support to enterprise growth
KIC played a role in nurturing Complete Farmer during its formative stages, providing an environment where the team could refine its business concept, strengthen its entrepreneurial capacity and pursue its vision for agricultural transformation.
The company subsequently built on that foundation, investing in its technology, developing its business model and pursuing opportunities to expand its reach and impact.
Its progress reflects the sustained effort, strategic decisions and entrepreneurial commitment of its founders and team. It also demonstrates the importance of an ecosystem in which early-stage businesses can access support, learn, build networks and develop the capacity to pursue larger opportunities.
For KIC, Complete Farmer’s journey reinforces the value of supporting entrepreneurs at the beginning of their journeys, while recognising that long-term business growth depends on the entrepreneurs themselves and the work they put into building their enterprises.
A new chapter with the International Finance Corporation
Complete Farmer’s partnership with the International Finance Corporation marks another significant step in the company’s development.
The partnership includes a US$2.4 million convertible loan for inputs and agronomy services for farmers and US$480,000 in advisory support, providing resources intended to support the company’s next phase of growth.
The collaboration also aligns with Complete Farmer’s ambition to expand its reach across agricultural markets and strengthen the support it provides to farmers. The company has articulated an ambition to reach 240,000 farmers by 2030.
The IFC partnership represents an important milestone not only for Complete Farmer but also for Ghana’s broader agricultural innovation ecosystem, demonstrating the potential for homegrown agritech enterprises to attract institutional financing and strategic support as they scale.
The wider significance of the Complete Farmer story
Complete Farmer’s evolution from an early-stage KIC Business to a company partnering with a global development finance institution offers a valuable perspective on entrepreneurship development.
Building a successful enterprise is rarely the result of a single intervention. It requires vision, persistence, market understanding, investment and the ability to adapt. Early-stage programmes can contribute to this journey by helping entrepreneurs strengthen their foundations and prepare to pursue opportunities beyond their initial support systems.
KIC’s role is part of that wider story: helping nurture the business in its early stages, while Complete Farmer built on that foundation and continued the work required to grow the company.
As KIC continues to support young Ghanaian entrepreneurs through its programmes, Complete Farmer’s journey underscores the importance of creating pathways for innovative businesses to develop, mature and contribute to agricultural transformation.
From early-stage coaching to enterprise growth, the ambition remains the same: to help build an ecosystem where Ghanaian entrepreneurs can turn innovative ideas into sustainable businesses that create economic opportunity and lasting impact.
